How to Measure Your Belt Size at Home
A belt that fits well looks better and feels more comfortable. Finding your size is simple. Here are two easy ways to measure your belt size at home, in inches.
What you need
- A soft tape measure (or a piece of string and a ruler)
- Optionally, a belt you already own and like
Method 1: Measure a belt you already own
- Lay the belt flat on a table.
- Find the hole you use most often.
- Measure from the point where the leather folds around the buckle to that hole. Do not include the buckle itself.
- The number you get, in inches, is your belt size.
Method 2: Measure your waist or pants
- Wrap the tape measure around your waist where you wear your belt. Keep it snug but not tight.
- Note the number in inches.
- As a general guide, belt size is often about 1 to 2 inches larger than your pant waist size. Check the size chart for the exact style, because fit can vary.
Tips for a good fit
- Choose a belt that fits comfortably on the middle holes. This leaves room to go tighter or looser.
- If you are between sizes, choose the larger one.
- Measure over the clothes you usually wear with the belt.
- Always check the size chart on the product page, since sizes can vary between styles.

Does leather stretch?
