Good leather gets better with time. With a little care, your wallet, belt, bag, or shoes will develop a beautiful patina and last for many years. Here is how to look after them.
Everyday care
- Wipe away dust and dirt with a soft, dry cloth.
- Let your leather rest between uses when you can, especially shoes and belts.
- Avoid overfilling wallets and bags so they keep their shape.
Cleaning
- For light marks, use a slightly damp cloth and wipe gently. Let it air dry.
- Use a cleaner made for leather if needed. Test it first on a small hidden area.
- Avoid household cleaners, alcohol, and harsh chemicals, which can dry out and damage leather.
Conditioning
- Apply a quality leather conditioner every few months, or when the leather starts to feel dry.
- Use a small amount on a soft cloth, rub in gently with circular motions, and wipe off any extra.
If your leather gets wet
- Blot away water with a soft cloth. Do not rub.
- Let it dry naturally at room temperature. Never use a hair dryer, heater, or direct sunlight.
- Stuff shoes and bags with plain paper to help them keep their shape while drying.
- Condition once fully dry to restore softness.
